Decoding Assassin's Creed Syndicate: Commercial Struggles and Overlooked Brilliance

Avatar frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws have flopped commercially, while open world games are becoming mundane. Assassin's Creed Shadows is make or break for the developers, tracing back to the downturn starting with Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Syndicate brought back Victorian London, offering a mix of industry and landmarks, with a focus on the brother-sister duo, Jacob and Evie Fry. The grappling hook in Syndicate was crucial for navigating the city's rooftops, adding a Batman-esque flair to the gameplay.
The combat in Syndicate shifted to street brawling, which felt like a step down despite the variety in weaponry. Stealth mechanics in Syndicate, however, were top-notch, offering a range of options for remaining undetected. The blackbox missions in Syndicate were expanded from Unity, providing multiple infiltration points and unique takedowns for each target. Syndicate, often overshadowed by its predecessors, stands out for its setting, likable protagonists, and exceptional stealth mechanics. The return of dual protagonists in Assassin's Creed Shadows could signal a positive shift for the developers if executed well.
